Now My Real World….
It’s an awesome thing to live out ones dreams of becoming a successful writer but too there is a world that’s even more rewarding on many levels because they are your f
amily.
Many who know me know I lost my oldest daughter Ashlie to a car accident in 2005 – she was a fine artist and on her way to VCU to study art and fashion design. She’s with us everyday despite the fact her presence is different than it used to be. Now, she’s an angel – a guardian of us all who is kept alive because we never stop mentioning her name – sharing our memories and talking about our lives with her. Of course, its every parent’s worse nightmare to lose their child but we choose not to think of her as lost but more like she’s traveling Europe or living out her dreams in New York City where once she went on a school trip and came home with literal stars in her eyes. She is always with us and always will be just differently than we wish she could be – she is though in many ways – the wind beneath my wings, my strength, my promise, my safety – my angel.
My son Wesley just graduated this year from high school and is taking some time off to see where
he wants to begin his adventure. He has such strength and intelligence he could be anything he set his mind to being even the Hobo Pirate on the James he sometimes contemplates. All my children are blessed with creativity Wesley is one of the funniest comedians I know – so much so it made discipline hard when he was growing up because more times than one I was laughing too hard to fuss. He’s a magnificent chef and has the heart of a healer as though he jokes about his life as a pirate he talks strongly about becoming a Oncologist - only time will tell where his talents take him but I’m certain wherever that may be he will be a very successful man in this world and no matter which he chooses of course I’ll always be proud.
My youngest daughter Ryan is in junior high and if you are a parent you know this is the toughest years of our children’s lives – she made it through 6th grade which was a feat of its own not because she’s not as intelligent as her brother and sister but because she is much like every sixth grader who enters into the unknown strange world of junior high. Finding her place – her style – her soul while trying to grow from a little girl into a little lady – it was tough but all of my children seem to be able to overcome the adversities of life – the changes – the good and the bad and still remain on top of the world – sometimes I envy their strength until an angel reminds me that I had a hand in teaching them these such things.
My critters – well they are a a vital part of our life and my best friend’s life as my girls Tinker and Peanut live with me and Max and George live with her. They each have their own personalities and ways of making your life filled with laughter and comfort. My boys are little stud muffin’s and are always up for a good romp with the ladies – they even have their own website – stop in and visit if you like.
As for me I’m sure those of you who have followed my work since 2003 know there’s only one thing that could keep me down when it comes to writing. My health is an issue that is still being investigated and prayfully we are close to an answer to the problems I have been suffering. It’s been a long road with many a battle – many a wrong diagnosis and then of course no diagnosis that is concrete but the time has come for my words to return – for me to return and I know in my heart though I have been on a bit of a hiatus for a spell I have many fans who still support me and will be very happy to read the long awaited sequel to The All-Soul’s Faire along with several other books in the making. For my long standing fans I am grateful just as I am grateful for each new one that reads my work and finds enjoyment in my words. I’m not going anywhere this time unless of course its the flip side of the grass which I don’t foresee being my fate anytime soon so please stay tuned and get ready for my very zealous return – I can’t wait to get back on the road and see you all again!
Aside from my writing; I am also an advocate for FromOneTwoAnother.org; a two year tour based on authors, musicians, and artists of all kinds joining together to help fulfill the goals and assist when we can those charities who work towards creating positive changes in the lives of both our less fortunate and the lives and safety of our earth's creatures.
